Hamilton man charged with setting vehicle on fire in Oakville driveway

A Hamilton man has been charged with setting a vehicle on fire in the driveway of an Oakville man on Monday (Jan. 16).

The local victim was inside his residence on Oakhaven Drive when he looked outside at around 10 p.m. and saw that his vehicle was on fire on the driveway.

Halton Police were told that a man was seen pouring liquid on the vehicle before setting it on fire and fleeing the scene in a car.

Halton Police and a neighbour would end up putting the fire out with fire extinguishers.

Police would later discover the Hamilton man’s vehicle in the Sheridan College parking lot. It was abandoned after hitting a light pole.

The driver of the vehicle was later located near the college residences by a police K9 unit and was arrested.

A 20-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with arson and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

No injuries were reported and the damage to the burned vehicle has yet to be determined.
