Hamilton man charged after cocaine, fentanyl and a loaded gun found in search

A Hamilton man faces drug trafficking and firearms charges after he was arrested in the east end late last week.

Hamilton Police (HPS) say that officers were in the area of Melrose Ave. and Barton St. E. last Thursday (Sept. 29) when they observed a male whom was found failing to comply with his release order. The male was placed under arrest.

The search related to that arrest uncovered a loaded firearm and a quantity of cocaine and fentanyl. A quantity of Canadian currency was also seized, and so was a smartphone.

Jason Mercuri, age 22, is charged with careless transport of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a loaded and prohibted firearm; two counts possession of a Schedule I substance for purpose of trafficking (cocaine, fentanyl) and four counts of failure to comply with terms of a release order.
