Hamilton man charged after cocaine, cash, loaded gun seized

A 30-year-old man is behind bars, following a drugs bust on the east Mountain in Hamilton yesterday.

Police in Hamilton say that they seized over $15,000 in illicit drugs, including cocaine, along with $72,000 in cash, a loaded .40-calibre handgun and scales while carrying out a warrant at a residence on Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 24). The home is in in area of Mud St. and Winterberry Dr. 

“This is not the end,” Hamilton Police (HPS) stated in a release today. “(HPS) will continue to engage with our community, police partners and share information in order to provide community safety. The citizens of Hamilton need to continue to feel safe in their communities and as a community we need to stop gun violence.”

Thirty-year-old Gurpreet Singh Atwal remains in custody.

Atwal faces six charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
  • Proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Careless use, carry, transport, storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited Firearm — loaded/unloaded
