A 29-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges related to weapon and Fentanyl possession after creating a stir Wednesday morning in the city’s downtown core.
The Hamilton Police Service says a witness observed a black handgun fall out of a man’s coat pocket near Gore Park at around 10:30 a.m.
“…(the witness) then observed the male pick the firearm up, concealing it in his jacket,” says police.
The man then proceeded to walk westbound on King Street.
Police say they located an individual matching the man’s description near a small encampment near Gore Park in possession of a pellet gun and Fentanyl.
Phillip Arsenault has been charged with the following:
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Possession for the Purpose (Fentanyl)
- Fail to Comply Probation x2
Update: Police initially reported that John Sopinka Courthouse was placed under lockdown in relation to this incident. On Friday, police said the court remained open, and the lockdown was never in place.
