A third period collapse spelled disaster for the Oshawa Generals Sunday evening as the team lost its sixth consecutive hockey game, 5-3 to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The loss dropped the Generals (5-9-2) to the bottom of the East Division, one point behind Hamilton.

Just like in Friday’s loss to the league-leading Ottawa 67s, discipline was Oshawa’s undoing as Hamilton went 4/5 on the power play, including the last three of four unanswered goals in the decisive third period to send the packed crowd at the Tribute Communities Centre home unhappy.

Luca Marelli scored his first OHL goal in the first period to get Oshawa on the board and added the second of his career in the second to give the Generals a 3-1 lead. The third, however, was all Hamilton.

Florian Xhekaj had two goals and three points to lead the Bulldogs’ attack. Dylan Roobroek, with his third of the season, scored the other Oshawa goal.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Generals, who travel to Peterborough to face the rival Petes (10-6-3) Thursday before a pair of home games Friday and Sunday against the Owen Sound Attack (12-6) and Sarnia Sting (9-6-3).
