Halton police ID murder victim found in burning vehicle on Burlington road

Halton police have confirmed the identity of a man they now say was murdered after finding a body in a burning car in Burlington.

The victim of the homicide is Jerwin Belmonte, 31.

Belmonte was a resident of Edmonton, who had recently relocated to Toronto. He was last seen alive in the area of Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave. E. in Toronto on Nov. 26.

His body was found in the early morning hours of Nov. 27 when police and fire services were called to a burning vehicle on Dundas St., just west of Tremaine Rd.

After the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside and the homicide unit was called in due to the suspicious circumstances.

Investigators are appealing to individuals who may have had contact with Belmonte on or prior to Nov. 26 or those who may have information about his murder.
