The spooky season is upon us and businesses in downtown Stoney Creek are getting into the spirit of things this weekend.

Pumpkin Fest takes over the main street this Friday (Oct. 15) and Saturday so don’t be surprised if you see little ghosts and goblins out trick or treating a few weeks early.

The two-day event will feature live music, sidewalk sales, artisan vendors, trick or treating and more for families to enjoy.

Oh, and don’t forget: it’s all about the pumpkins, which will be there in abundance.

Costumes are heartily encouraged as prizes will be awarded throughout the festival for best costumes.

At this time last year, events like Pumpkin Fest were put on hold as the pandemic started to rear its ugly head at the height of the second wave. In downtown Stoney Creek, fall festivities were very much scaled back.

A festive return to the street, it is hoped, will coax residents from their homes to patronize local businesses that have been hard hit by lockdowns and COVID-19 protocols and, at the same time, reconnect with the community.

This year’s Pumpkin Fest, organized by the Downtown Stoney Creek BIA, runs Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
