The residents of a home in the Birch Avenue and Wilson Street area were awakened at around 2:30 a.m. by the sound of a door being smashed, Hamilton Police said.

Three males, one reportedly armed with a handgun, then “stormed into the bedroom demanding money,” police said in a news release.

After a “brief standoff,” the intruders fled the house on foot and were last spotted heading northbound on Birch Avenue toward Cannon Street East, police said.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in tracking down the culprits.

Two of the intruders are further described as white, between ages 15 and 25 while the third is described as Black with a light complexion, also 15 to 25 years old.

All three wore dark-coloured sweaters and dark pants, with two wearing black balaclavas and carrying dark-coloured backpacks, police said.

As police investigate, they’re asking area residents to check their CCTV cameras or dash cameras for anything suspicious between 2 and 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
