Grocery store to close and be replaced in Toronto

A grocery store in Toronto is set to shut down, but it will be replaced by another one not too long after.

Metro told INsauga.com in an email that that its store at 20 Church Avenue in North York, which is south of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, will be closing.

The last day will be Thursday, Aug. 13.

A Food Basics is set to replace the Metro and open sometime in the Fall, the company said.

“This decision is about having the right store in the right neighbourhood,” Metro said.

Metro owns Food Basics, which is a discount chain.

“We regularly and carefully assess our network based on local market conditions, and in this case, a Food Basics store is better suited to meet customer needs in the area,” the company said.
