A Canadian-based supermarket chain is opening its seventh store in Mississauga this week and is celebrating with gift bags and free samples.
Food Basics says it will open the doors at its new Clarkson Village Shopping Centre location on Thursday, taking over the former HomeSense space at 1865 Lakeshore Rd. W.
Known for its low-cost model and “always more for less” approach, the discount grocery retailer says the new store offers a contemporary look and a tailored product selection to reflect the diversity of southern Ontario.
“Customers will be able to shop for high-quality, budget-friendly Irrésistible and Selection products, locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce, along with fresh BBQ chicken,” Food Basics says in a release.
Customers can also earn Moi Rewards points and order groceries online.
“Our main goal is to provide our customers with the best discount shopping experience possible with the most value at the lowest prices possible,” said Tara Gerow, manager of the new Clarkson store, adding she is “looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming everyone to our new and modern store here in Mississauga.”
The new Food Basics store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting on Thursday. There will be gift bags given out to the first 250 customers through the doors and free samples available throughout the day.
The new store brings grocery service back to the Clarkson Village Shopping Centre, which previously housed a Dominion supermarket and was repurposed for retail use.
Food Basics is the discount retailer of Metro Ontario Inc. and operates more than 15o stores across Ontario.
