A rapidly expanding grocery store is opening in a former Best Buy store in the Greater Toronto Area.

Iqbal Foods, which has locations in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto and Ajax, has plans to open a new location in Milton.

The sign is up on the new spot at 1195 Maple Ave. in the Milton Square plaza just south of Highway 401.

The Best Buy closed in this spot just a few months ago, on April 19. There was no word on why the store closed, but Best Buy closures in the U.S. have been linked to the growth of online shopping.

Milton residents hoped a Costco or Giant Tiger would move into the vacant electronics store, according to posts on social media.

“I would have preferred Giant Tiger! We don’t have one here,” one person said on Facebook.

Iqbal carries a variety of products, including halal meats, fresh produce, bakery items, South Asian and Middle Eastern specialty foods, spices, dairy products and frozen foods, according to their website.

There is no word yet on when the Milton store will open.
