Grocery chain opens first store in Oshawa, 19th in GTA

The opening of store number 48 in Oshawa last month was another landmark in a journey from a 300 sq. ft produce store to a mini grocery empire for Farm Boy, which opened the door to its first modest store in Cornwall in 1981.
Today there are Farm Boy stores across Ontario, including three in Durham Region – each adorned with the company logo of the boy in the straw hat with an armful of fresh-picked produce.
The latest opening happened March 14 on Clearbrook Drive at Taunton Road in Oshawa’s booming north-east quadrant, the 19th in the GTA. The popular Whitby location opened in the Taunton Gardens plaza August 27, 2015 and the Pickering store opened at the Pickering Town Centre a year later on September 29, 2016.
Farm Boy President Shawn Linton was “delighted” to be in Oshawa and to add to the grocery company’s presence in Durham.

The Wilson Rd. N. and Taunton Rd. E. store will showcase Farm Boy’s signature offerings, including fresh produce, Canadian meats, local dairy, and a variety of popular Farm Boy private-label products. Gluten-free, plant-based, vegan and vegetarian options are also available, as well as hormone-free, organic beef, chicken and pork.
Farm Boy also does things a little different from other grocery stores, with all stores offering Farm Boy Kitchens with fresh salad bars and hot bars serving hot and cold meal options. Many of those meals are made from scratch in-store.
