Gordon Krantz re-elected Milton mayor

Long-time mayor Gordon Krantz has been re-elected for another term as the mayor of Milton.

The incumbent mayor won with a total of 11,391 votes (49.51%), edging out Zee Hamid who had 10,396 votes.

Krantz, 84, is the longest-serving mayor in a major municipality in Canada’s history. In April, Krantz celebrated his 41st anniversary as mayor of the Town.

In total, Krantz has been re-elected for 21 terms; eight as councillor and 13 as mayor, officially surpassing now retired Hazel McCallion, who served as Mississauga’s mayor for 36 years.

Krantz served as a town councillor for 15 years beginning in 1965 and was elected mayor in the Municipal Elections of 1980.

During his years as a councillor, Milton’s population size was under 10,000.

This year, he faced two other candidates along with Hamid.
These included Saba Ishaq who is actively associated with organizations including the Milton Muslim initiative and GTANW health services and Rajiv Dhawan, the owner of a real estate brokerage.
