The slow progress of work towards the extension of GO train service to Bowmanville is taking another step this summer with geotechnical soil testing taking place near the Simcoe Street and Albert Street bridges in Oshawa.
Metrolinx has hired XS Soil Solutions (and its subcontractor Strata Drilling Group) to conduct soil characterization sampling to help “inform” the design and construction planning of future infrastructure upgrades that will eventually lead to four new transit stations in Durham Region, including two in Oshawa (Thornton’s Corners and Ritson Road) and two in Clarington (Courtice and Bowmanville).
The work will begin today (June 16) and run until August 18.
Work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. but working hours may be extended or rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Residents should expect some noise, vibration, and dust due to construction activities. Site lighting may be utilized if necessary and will be pointed away from homes.
Safety signage will be in place, and crews will follow all applicable safety and environmental guidelines.
Once work is complete the affected areas will be restored to original conditions
