GO expansion forcing temporary off-ramp closures in Ajax

The expansion of GO train and bus service in Durham – including four new train stations in Oshawa (2), Courtice and Bowmanville – will mean a little pain now for relief later with multiple road closures coming in February and March at the Salem Road interchange at Hwy 401.

The good news is the work will all be performed at night as Trans Power will be on site doing electrical work from February 2-6, February 9-13 and February 26 to March 3.

In addition to the new train stations and the expansion of GO Train service into Bowmanville, Metrolinx will be expanding all its services to 10,000 trips a week on the Lakeshore East Line, transforming the rail network from a commuter service into an all-day rapid transit system.

Trans Power will be mobilizing along Salem Road at the Hwy 401 off-ramp during the dates with closures necessary to complete the work.

Crews will be on site at variable shift times with closures depending on what work is required.  There will be traffic controls set up as well as signage to indicate the closure as well as detour routes for traffic travelling along Highway 401 as well as along Salem Road.

February 2-6:

  • 8 p.m.5 a.m. with two crew shifts per day. Two left lanes (northbound turn) of the off-ramp for Highway 401 eastbound and one left turn lane (southbound) Salem Road for Highway 401 westbound will be closed.

February 9-13:

  • 8 p.m.-5 a.m. with two crew shifts per day. South of the intersection there is to be a full road closure on Salem Road as well as a right-turn (southbound) lane closure on the eastbound Highway 401 off-ramp.

February 26-March 3

  • 8 a.m.-6 a.m. One night crew shift only and road conditions to be open at the end of the shift. There will be a full closure of the crossing at the eastbound Highway 401 off-ramp to Salem Road.

The work schedule may be delayed and/or changed with unforeseen adverse winter weather conditions.
