More than 500 all-electric BrightDrop delivery vans rolled off the assembly lines at General Motor’s CAMI plant in Ingersoll in the first quarter of 2023, with shipping of the Canadian-built vehicles already underway.

The company also announced Ryder Trucks will purchase 4,000 Zevo 600 and Zevo 400 models to add to their rental and leasing fleet by 2025, with the first 200 units being produced this year.

BrightDrop Zevo 600 is the fastest vehicle produced, from concept to market, in GM’s history and the conversion of the CAMI Assembly from traditional vehicle manufacturing to all-electric commercial delivery vehicle production will play a leading role in GM’s future, particularly with a mandate to be all-electric by 2035.

GM has invested some $800 million to convert the plant and prepare it for large-scale production of up to 50,000 electric vans a year by 2025.

The plant opened in December 2022.

The 2023 model year Zevo 600 model is already sold out with 2024 models expected to be available later this year. The smaller Zevo 400 model should enter production in late 2023.

The company has also produced a   VIDEO on the making of the BrightDrop EV.
