Sugar Daddies Bakery Inc., a keto-friendly, 100 per cent gluten-free and sugar-free dessert shop, has opened a storefront in downtown Hamilton.

The location is in Royal Connaught Square at 120 King St. E., near Catharine Street. It is the second Sugar Daddies brick-and-mortar location that co-founders David Gardner-Orbon and Greg Gardner-Orbon have opened in Southern Ontario. They started the business less than five years ago after losing a combined 59 kilograms (130 pounds) in six months by adhering to a ketogenic diet. After starting out selling low-carb treats, breads and other baked goods at craft shows, the Gardner-Orbons built out an Ontario-wide mail-order business and opened a store in Waterloo Region, first in Galt, and now in Cambridge.

In 2020, the Sobeys grocery chain recognized Sugar Daddies as its best new supply partner in Ontario. The Gardner-Orbons have nearly two dozen retail partners, including the likes of Foodland, La Compagnie, Pusateri’s and Safeway

A soft opening in Hamilton took place on March 9. Greg Gardner-Orbon wrote on the store’s Instagram that details about a grand opening will be shared in the near future.

Gluten-free and keto-friendly baked goods, of course, have a higher price-point than their higher-carbohydrate counterparts. For instance, a muffin is priced at $3.49. A white chocolate macadamia bar sells for $5.99, while a four-pack of chocolate chip blondies or salted caramel brownies is $10.99.

Sugar Daddies Bakery says “all products produced… at our Cambridge, Ontario Facility are Gluten Free to the best of our knowledge. We do not add any gluten containing ingredients to the products listed below. In addition, Staff are also not permitted to bring food into the facility that contains gluten.”

The store is open seven days a week. Most days, it is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but Sugar Daddies stays open till 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Parking for Sugar Daddies Bakery customers is available next to the store at 120 King St. E., or north of King in a lot at Catharine St. N. and King William Street.

More information about the store’s menu is available at sugardaddiesbakery.ca. The online delivery shop, with same-day curbside pickup, is available at 226-566-9701.

Royal Connaught Square has had two new food openings this month. A Mucho Burrito Fresh Mexican Grill opened at 112 King St. E. last week.
