Tree planting brampton free tree giveaway

Hundreds of free trees are up for grabs this month in Brampton as the city is working its way towards a goal of planting 1 million new trees in the city.

The city pledged in 2020 to hit a target of planting 1 million new trees as part of Brampton’s 2040 Vision plan and Mayor Patrick Brown says Brampton has already planted over 100,000 trees of a 1 million tree goal.

But with many more to go, the city is again giving residents a chance to flex their green thumbs with another free tree giveaway.

To mark Earth Month, residents can get a free tree from the city in one of five species – Red Maple, Red Oak, Ironwood, Blue Beech and White Spruce. There are also two species of shrubs available – Nannyberry and Serviceberry.

Quantities are limited and trees are restricted to one per household and can be planted on private property only, like in front or back yards.

On top of helping beautify Brampton, the city says the program has a positive impact on the environment.

“If there’s one thing we want to pass on to the next generation in our city, it’s the same beautiful environment that we enjoy today,” the mayor said in a video promoting this year’s tree giveaway, which is being sponsored by CN Rail.

To get a free tree, residents will need to sign up online with the City of Brampton, and the city also has helpful tree planting tips available online.

Tree pick-up will be available at Norton Place Park on April 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again on April 17 at the BFES Fire Training Facility from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
