A Hamilton mom is now a millionaire after saying ‘yes’ to Encore this summer.

According to an OLG press release, Josephena Sampson of Stoney Creek matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order in the June 11, 2021, Lotto Max draw to win $1 million.

Sampson, who said she is not a regular lottery player, told the OLG that it was her son who discovered her big win.

“He was at the store checking all the family’s tickets when he saw the Big Winner screen appear,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto recently to pick up her winnings.

“He came straight home and told me to get in the car. I had no idea what was going on!”

When they got to the store, Sampson said, the machine froze and she started questioning if it was real.

“It took a few days for it to sink in,” she said.

“This feels truly amazing. It means the world to me to share this with my kids.”

Sampson said she plans to share her winnings with her children and plan a family trip to celebrate.

“We’ll see what the future holds,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Metro on South Service Road in Stoney Creek.
