Fugitive at large after mistaken release from Hamilton jail

Police are searching for a fugitive who was released from the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre by mistake on Tuesday.
The Hamilton Police Service notified the public on Thursday, stating that 45-year-old Shawn Delaney was improperly released from Barton Jail due to an administrative error.
Information regarding Delaney’s charges and sentencing was not provided; however, it has been confirmed that he has not served his full sentence prior to being released.

Police say Delaney “is aware of the error and actively evading police.”
Members of the public are encouraged to call 9-1-1 with information regarding Delaney’s whereabouts.
A 45-year-old inmate is unlawfully at large, after being improperly released from the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre. Hamilton police are asking members of the public who see him to call 911.
