Some young Brampton residents can hop on the bus and enjoy some swimming, skating and sports for free this summer.

Today, the city announced that its Explore Brampton Youth Pass program will again be available to youths between the ages of 12 and 16 (born between Sept. 1, 2008, and Sept. 1, 2013) this year. The program provides young residents with free access to Brampton Transit and select recreation opportunities throughout the summer.

“Brampton is home to a diverse and vibrant youth population and we are proud to continue investing in our youth,” said Mayor Patrick Brown in a statement.

“The Explore Brampton Youth Pass gives young residents the freedom to explore our city, stay active and take advantage of our excellent recreation programs at no cost. We encourage all eligible youth to apply and make the most of their summer.”

As in previous years, 2,500 passes, sponsored by Amazon, are available and offer users complimentary access to Brampton Transit and recreation drop-in programs, including swimming, skating, and some sports, from July 1 to Sept. 1.

According to the city’s website, vulnerable applicants will receive priority through Region of Peel programs and referrals from youth-serving providers.

That said, anyone in the eligible age bracket can apply and referrals are not necessary to be considered.

The city said young people accepted into the program must watch a brief orientation video and visit select recreation centres to pick up their pass. At the end of the program, program participants will be asked to complete a brief survey about their experience.

In a news release, the city said it’s one of Canada’s “youngest cities,” as it’s home to more than 150,000 young people.

Eligible residents can apply online by May 18, 2025.
