A totally new kind of theme park will be opening this summer in Hamilton, and you can already get a taste of it this spring in Toronto. The best part is that admission will be totally free.

Makers Theme Park is a new type of theme park in Hamilton representing all different kinds of makers and opportunities to get your hands dirty and really make something.

They claim to be the very first ever theme park in the world for hands-on creativity and real-world skill building. No experience is needed to take part in this immersive experience.

“It’s where creativity comes to life, and every visit offers something new to learn and explore. Less screen time, more real time – come unplug, connect, and create,” reads the official website for the Makers Theme Park.

“Experience crafts, builds, cooking classes, art, design, technology, DIY, and more. Meet, learn from, and be inspired by talented creators from every background.”

While the official Makers Theme Park will be opening to the public this summer in Hamilton, you can get a sneak peek of what that experience will offer ahead of time in Toronto.

The advance pop-up experiences where you can get a taste of what’s going to be offered at the Makers Theme Park are taking place at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto on April 11, 18 and 25.

The April 11 experiences will include lumpia-making, bead bouquets, hair braiding, and sip-and-paint. On April 18, you can take part in making a succulent terrarium or cavatelli pasta, rock up to a charm bar, or try a special beer and braiding session.

“Workshops included with the Discovery Pass run on a flexible credit system designed to encourage exploration. Guests use their credits across different activities, where basic, self-guided workshops cost 1 credit and guided workshops with instruction cost 2 credits,” reads the official Makers Theme Park website.

“This allows guests to mix and match multiple experiences in a single visit. In addition, the space also offers special Pop-Up Workshops – more in-depth sessions led by expert makers – which are available outside of the standard credit system.”

Applications are still open to host workshops at Makers Theme Park, so if this not only sounds like something you want to take part in but also something you could teach people something new, you can fill out their online form.

Makers Theme Park will be open in Hamilton from June 6 to Sept. 27 at Lime Ridge Mall.
