More than 100 musicians will take the stage in Brampton for a weekend of free performances as the World of Jazz Festival returns to venues across the city.

After two of hybrid virtual and live shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the two-day World of Jazz Festival is back in-person on Saturday (Sept. 10) with 10 bands playing live at seven different locations in Brampton, and will roll into Sunday for a full day of performances in Gage Park.

With acts covering a wide range of styles and genres from Salsa and Bossa Nova to Reggae and Jazz Fusion and more, there’s bound to be something to suit nearly every musical taste at World of Jazz.

“World of Jazz 2022 is more than a festival this year, it is truly a celebration of our organization’s focus, vision, and resilience that not only navigated the pandemic, but ensured that we would be prepared to deliver the events that the residents of Brampton love and come to expect of us,” said Carmen Spada, artistic director of festival organizers and not-for-profit group B-Jazzed.

Performances will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Gage Park, with more shows at Long & McQuade Musical Instruments from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday will also see many restaurant venue performances during both the lunchtime and dinner hours at locations like Segovia Coffee Co, Mt. Vesuvio’s Ristorante, Fanzorelli’s, Lot 25 and Keenan’s Irish Pub.

The on Sunday, Gage Park will host two stages for a full day of performances from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including 905 Mambo Train – an 18-piece latin jazz orchestra performing music of Tito Puente, Machito, Mario Bauza and others.

There will also be big band performances, dance troupes, food vendors, and a Family Fun Zone featuring face painting, balloon twisting, costumed characters, a video game truck, and even a LEGO building zone and much more.

“The 2022 World of Jazz Festival clearly has something for everyone to enjoy,” says Joe Asensio, B-Jazzed Executive Director Joe Asensio said the festival will have something for everyone to enjoy.

“To be able to offer all of these amenities, in addition to world-class, admission-free musical performances right here in Downtown Brampton is not only an honour for B-Jazzed, but a great privilege for the residents of Brampton,” Asensio said.

The admission-free World of Jazz Festival runs on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11. For more details and a list of performers visit www.worldofjazz.ca.
