Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a former pastor in connection to an investigation into child pornography.

In a press release issued Tuesday (Nov. 23), police said the investigation launched in August 2021 when they received a cybertip from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection in regards to a pastor of a local Baptist Church believed to be in possession of child pornography.

“During the course of the investigation search warrants were executed which resulted in computer devices being seized and the data contents being examined,” the release said.

“As a result, evidence was collected that resulted in grounds to believe the owner of these devices was in possession of child pornography.”

Last Wednesday (Nov. 17), 46-year-old Joshua David Conroy, formerly employed as a Pastor at Elliott Heights Baptist Church on the mountain and a resident of Hamilton, was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information that could assist with these investigations into these crimes is asked to contact any member of the Internet Exploitation Unit by calling 905-540-5247.
