COVID-19 has forced former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett to cancel this weekend’s tour stop in Oakville.

Hackett and his solo band were set to kick off a 36-date North American tour with two shows Saturday and Sunday (March 26-27) at the Oakville Centre for Performing Arts, but an outbreak of the virus in the band resulted in them having to postpone both shows.

Hackett’s “Genesis Revisited: Seconds Out + More Tour” was to open this weekend in Oakville and wrap up in Seattle on May 19.

“It is with great regret that we will have to reschedule our upcoming Canadian tour dates, due to an outbreak of COVID within the band,” Hackett said in a message posted on the Oakville Centre’s website.

“My sincere apologies to all our fans for this inconvenience and please know that we are working hard to plan and announced rescheduled dates soon (tentatively being planned for late November/early December).”

On the tour, Hackett and his band will be performing the entire 1977 Genesis live double album Seconds Out, which was recorded from their concert at the Palais de Sport in Paris, France in June 1977.

Along with other old Genesis favourites, Hackett is also expected to play songs from his 2021 solo album, Surrender of Silence.

Seconds Out featured Hackett on guitar along with Genesis bandmates Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins , who assumed the role of vocalist after the departure of Peter Gabriel.

Joining the guitarist on this tour will be Nad Sylvan (vocals), Roger King (keyboards), Jonas Reingold (bass), Rob Townsend (saxophone and flutes), and Craig Blundell (drums and percussion).
