Flight delays are expected due to heavy snow at Toronto Pearson Airport on Wednesday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a weather warning for heavy, blowing snow in the Greater Toronto Area. Up to 10 centimetres of snow is forecast for Toronto and Mississauga.
The snowstorm could impact the morning commute and flights at the airport.
“We’re preparing for a wintry day with frigid temperatures and snow forecast to fall at the airport,” Pearson Airport officials said on X. “Our crews are prepared for snow-clearing operations and will be out doing continuous loops of the airfield using more than 100 pieces of specialized equipment.”
The crews clear roughly five million square metres of surface area, Pearson said.
There are 861 flights scheduled today and departing aircraft will head to the Central Deicing Facility, where crews will remove any snow or ice buildup before departure, the airport said.
Delays are possible due to a traffic management initiative “to ensure the safe and efficient flow of aircraft,” airport officials said.
Travellers should check their flight status and leave extra time to get to the airport.
