WARNING: Up to 20 cm of snow expected in southern Ontario

An Alberta clipper is expected to move through southern Ontario, bringing up to 20 centimetres of snow on Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a weather warning for the heavy snow, which could impact the morning commute.

Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres could fall in areas east of Oshawa, including Cobourg, Prince Edward County to Kingston, the warning states.

Areas in the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, Mississauga and Durham Region will get less snow—up to 10 centimetres, according to the warning. Brampton and Halton Region are not part of the warning.

The snow is expected to begin on Wednesday morning and ease late in the afternoon or early evening. Conditions could be poor during the evening commute.

“Travel will likely be challenging,” the warning states. “Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Allow extra time for travel.”
