The winter storm expected in Ontario tomorrow could bring up to 10 centimetres of snow to Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Oakville, Burlington and Milton.

Special weather statements and watches issued earlier have now expanded to areas in the GTA, according to Environment Canada.

Snowfall amounts of five to 10 centimetres are expected in Peel and Halton Regions starting late tomorrow (Jan. 9) morning, the statement says.

The snowfall, which could be heavy at times, will turn to rainfall with 20 to 40 millimetres possible near Lake Ontario.

There is less snow expected for areas closer to Lake Ontario where snow may change to rain sooner.

Those who commute to work may want to take extra precautions.

“At this point, it appears that the heaviest snow will arrive after the morning commute, but that the afternoon commute could be significantly impacted,” the statement reads.

Winter weather travel advisories may be issued for some regions as this event draws nearer, the statement says.

For those travelling further, up to 25 centimetres of snow could fall in parts of southern Ontario, north of the GTA.
