MV Ocean Castle - the first international ship of the season in the Port of Oshawa

The Port of Oshawa said bon voyage to the MV Ocean Castle Tuesday after a nine-day stay, the port’s first international ship of the season.

The bulk carrier, carrying a shipment of steel coils, is a Malta-registered vessel (owned by Currie Maritime Corp.) that arrived in Oshawa March 30 and left for Hamilton shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“It was a delight to extend a warm welcome to Captain Franjo Maric and the crew of the MV Ocean Castle, marking the first international vessel arrival at the Port of Oshawa,” the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority said in a brief statement.

The ship arrived in Hamilton harbour Tuesday evening.

Oshawa’s port welcomed its first ship of the season March 27 when the NACC Argonaut arrived in the harbour carrying a shipment of concrete.

The first ship of the year, as per a 77-year tradition, is awarded a ceremonial ‘top hat.’
