A fire broke out early Tuesday morning, consuming two buildings, including a new Oshawa diner.

Crews were on the scene of a structure fire in the area of Simcoe Street South and Olive Street, Oshawa Fire and Emergency Services said on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out just after 1:30 a.m., freelance photojournalist Colin Williamson said on X. Williamson said he could see heavy fire in two separate buildings.

Video from the scene shows huge flames shooting from the Simcoe St Diner and a neighbouring building. The 1950s retro diner and bar served all-day breakfast, burgers and milkshakes. The restaurant is new; it opened in June last year.

There is no word yet on any injuries or the cause of the fires.

Oshawa Fire asked people to avoid the area.
