Fiesta Week culinary and cultural celebration is back in Oshawa

After two years of pandemic cancellations the mantra at the Oshawa Folk Arts Council was simple but determined: “We can’t let Fiesta Die.”
They certainly did not. Starting Fathers’ Day, Fiesta is back.
Fiesta Week, Oshawa’s long-running and popular cultural celebration, kicks off its 48th year with the parade and concert this Sunday at Memorial Park before opening its pavilions for locals and tourists to enjoy a taste of the world with food, entertainment and cultural displays.
There are ten pavilions this year and for the first time in memory, passports are not required. Your taste buds, however, are needed for the culinary journey that awaits.

From pierogis (or pyrohy) and schnitzel to tourtiere, roti, codfish cakes and cabbage rolls (and don’t forget tiramisu), Fiesta Week is a feast for your senses and your appetite.
As befitting the history of Oshawa, there are two pavilions each representing Ukraine (Lviv – 38 Lviv Boulevard; and Odesa – 31 Bloor St. E), Poland (Krakow – 1551 Stevenson Rd. N; and Poznan – 219 Olive Avenue), and Portugal (Oshawa Portuguese – 520 Simcoe St. S; and Northern Portugal – 40 Albany Street), as well as pavilions representing Italy (245 Simcoe St. S). Germany (Club Loreley – 389 Dean Avenue), the West Indies (Club Carib – 600 Wentworth St. E) and French Canada (384 Hillside Drive).

Oshawa Folk Arts Council is a non-profit organization that aids in sustaining and celebrating the cultural diversity and multicultural communities of Oshawa. For nearly half a century, the OFAC has brought together cultural groups (pavilions) for a weeklong, annual multi-cultural family celebration across Oshawa called Fiesta Week.
Fiesta Week is presented, organized and run by volunteers from across the board, from OFAC Board of Directors to the cooks in the kitchen, all the way to the four year-old dancing on the stage.
All proceeds from Fiesta Week directly support the local non-profit cultural organizations.
