Fatal crash in Whitby after ‘medical episode’

A 70 year-old man is dead after striking a hydro pole in Whitby Thursday evening.
Durham Police say the man had suffered a medical episode before driving his car onto the shoulder of the road at Victoria St. E and Brock St. S in the town’s south end and crashing into the pole.
The driver was non-responsive at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation and the roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
