Drivers will face an additional two nights of weekend lane closures on the QEW in west Mississauga over the next few weeks as work continues on the rehabilitation of the highway bridge over the Credit River.

The latest in a series of ongoing overnight lane closures are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday nights (July 22-23) into early the following mornings, and Aug. 5-6 also into the following mornings.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project say that on those four nights, two lanes of the westbound QEW between Hurontario St. and the Mississauga Rd. overpass will be temporarily closed to traffic.

Initially, the lane closures were to be in effect only on the Friday nights, but project officials have now added the Saturday night lane reductions.

On each of those four dates, the first lane will be shut down from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning while the second lane will be closed from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day.

The closures are necessary in order to carry out road construction in the area, officials say. Work crews expect only minor traffic disruptions as the work is done.

Work and subsequent lane closures will also depend on the weather, officials note.

As work continues on the massive Credit River bridge project, drivers and area residents can expect ongoing traffic disruptions to impact part of the QEW and other areas in the vicinity of Mississauga Rd. and the highway in the coming weeks and months.

Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of construction.

After years of planning, work on the new bridge continues to move forward.
