Eight postal codes in Brampton have over 20% COVID-19 positivity rate

Nine areas in Brampton are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario, as the province overall sees some of the highest percent positivity since the onset of the pandemic.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of April 18 to 24.

Of the top 50 listed, nine are in Brampton (compared to three during the previous week) and eight are over 20% positivity:

L6R at 26.54% (area of Sandalwood Pkwy E and Torbram)
2nd highest percent positivity area in Ontario (4th highest during previous week)

L6P at 25.76% (area of The Gore and Castlemore)
3rd highest percent positivity area in Ontario (2nd highest during previous week)

L6X at 24.07% (area of Williams Pkwy and James Potter Rd)
5th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (18th during previous week)

L7A at 23.64% (area of Sandalwood Pkwy W and Chinguacousy)
6th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (7th during previous week)

L6Y at 23.23% (area of Chinguacousy and Steeles Ave W)
7th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (22nd during previous week)

L6T at 22.60% (area of Highway 407 and Airport Rd)
8th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (23rd during previous week)

L6V at 22.31% (area of Williams Pkwy and Kennedy Rd N)
9th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (12th during previous week)

L6S at 20.04% (area of Williams Pkwy and Bramalea Rd)
15th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (14th during previous week)

L6Z at 17.45% (area of Kennedy and Sandalwood Pkwy E)
31st highest percent positivity area in Ontario (36th during previous week)

For the same week, Mississauga had seven areas listed in the top 50.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of April 18 was 9.2% (compared to 9.3% the previous week), which is among the highest weekly values recorded since the pandemic began.

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon) still has the worst COVID-19 percent positivity by an increasingly wide margin.
