Ed the Sock, a sock puppet that was a popular, albeit crude, character on MuchMusic from 1995 to 2008, is returning to the airwaves in Oshawa starting May 2 at midnight.

Voiced by Steve Kerzner, Ed the Sock has become an active and sometimes polarizing figure on Twitter in recent years, spending most of his time lampooning alt-right personalities.

Kerzner announced on the social media platform Monday that he will be reviving the all night show format of Ed’s Night Party on Oshawa radio station 94.9 The Rock. The character will be playing music and taking calls from listeners.

Ed the Sock is a sock puppet character with green hair, round eyes, a scowl, a cigar and a rough, gravelly voice that was created and voiced by Kerzner since first appearing on local cable in suburban Toronto in 1987.

Ed’s name is based on Ed Asner from Mary Tyler Moore fame.

The Ed’s Night Party show on MuchMusic was cancelled in 1995 and since the acquisition of Much by Bell Media Ed has continued to be portrayed through FU Network and NewMusicNation.
