Durham Region under blizzard warning as winter wallop continues

A blizzard warning has been issued for Durham Region on Monday (Jan. 17) as strong winds and blowing snow are expected to reduce visibility to zero at times throughout the day.
According to Environment Canada, the warning will remain in effect until Monday evening when conditions are expected to taper off.
Conditions are expected to be at their worst throughout the morning but northwesterly winds, gusting up to 60 km/h will blow snow and reduce visibility, sometimes drastically and without warning.
Snowfall amounts of between 30 to 50 cm are expected as the low-pressure weather system tracking south of the Great Lakes moves through the region.
Motorists are being urged to limit non-essential travel.
Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least four hours.
