Durham Police say goodbye to one of their own after death of police service dog Storm

Durham Regional Police are saying goodbye to a good dog after the death of Police Service Dog (PSD) Storm last weekend surrounded by his handler, D/Cst Kevin Dunlop, and his family.
Storm served in the DRPS K-9 Unit for only a short time according to police, but was instrumental in several arrests. These apprehensions led to a “celebrated career,” per a DRPS announcement of Storm’s death via social media.

Storm began his service in 2016, taking the leash from Dunlop’s previous partner Magnum. Storm retired sometime ago living with Dunlop and his family until his death. PSD Taz has guarded Durham Region with Dunlop in Storm’s stead.
Police across the world joined DRPS is mourning Storm. “Hoping you are chasing squirrels and eating lots of treats. Thank you for your service – you will be missed,” said the Ontario Police Association.
The York Regional Police Associations felt similarly saying, “On behalf of our members, our condolences go out to Constable Dunlop and his family and fellow K9 members.”

News of Storm’s passing was shared by Alberta’s Lethbridge Police Department and the UK-Based Essex Retired Police Dog Fund who said, “Sleep softly Police Service Dog Storm.”
