Durham police seek public’s help in solving murder of man found in hockey bag in Uxbridge pond

Durham Police homicide investigators are again appealing for the public’s help in solving a murder case from May when the human remains of a Toronto man were discovered stuffed in a hockey bag in a pond in Uxbridge Township.
The remains were sent to the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services who confirmed the identity of the victim to be Ariel Kaplan, a 32 year-old man reported missing in August 2021.
Kaplan’s body was discovered near Uxbridge Concession Road 6 and Allbright Road on May 10 by an area resident who found the hockey bag floating in the pond and called police.
An extensive ground and water search was conducted by members of the Public Safety Unit as well as the York Regional Police dive team.
Durham Police will be holding a media conference at Durham Region/DRPS Headquarters in Whitby at 10:30 Monday morning regarding the case. Detective Sergeant Doris Carrierre of the Major Crime-Homicide Unit will be providing more information and making a public appeal for any witnesses to this homicide investigation.
The DRPS Major Crime – Homicide Unit is working jointly with the Toronto Police Service and the Missing Persons Unit and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
