Opp brampton driver excessive speed

Police have taken yet another Brampton driver off the road temporarily after officers say they were caught driving some 65 km/h over the speed limit on an Ontario highway.

The traffic stop happened in the early hours on Sunday when the OPP says an officer with the Elgin County detachment pulled over a driver headed eastbound on Highway 401 near Currie Road in the Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich, approximately 47 kilometres southwest of London.

Police say the 23-year-old driver was clocked driving more than 65 km/h over the limit, which is 100 km/h along most of the 401.

The OPP says a 23-year-old from Brampton was charged with one count of perform stunt – excessive speed. The charge comes with a 14-day impound of the involved vehicle and a 30-day licence suspension for the driver, whose identity has not been released.

News of the charges comes following police saying a Brampton man faces stunt driving charges after allegedly leading police on a chase in Oshawa.

Stunt driving includes driving 40 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit on roads with a speed limit less than 80 kilometres per hour, and driving 50 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit.

The OPP says you could face a minimum of a one-year licence suspension if convicted of a stunt driving offence for the first time with “more severe penalties” for further convictions.
