Driver saved by Good Samaritans in Grimsby crash up on a litany of charges

A Brantford driver saved by Good Samaritans after he crashed his car into a tree in Grimsby on the weekend turned out to be a little more checkered than his saviors.
On July 9 at 8 am, Niagara Police were called to the North Service Road near Olive Street in response to an accident and car fire.
It turned out a car had left the road, hit a tree and caught on fire. However, before they even arrived, good Samaritans had pulled a man and woman out of the car and put out the fire themselves.
Both had serious but non life-threatening injuries and were taken to an out of town hospital for medical treatment.
While the Niagara Police lauded the actions of the good Samaritans, what they discovered afterwards put a different spin entirely on the driver.
After recovering physical and forensic evidence, Maxwell James McKay, 25, of Brantford is facing a long list of charges including impaired driving, dangerous driving, taking a car without permission, possession of weapons and possession of cocaine.

He was released from custody with a court date scheduled in St. Catharines.
Detectives are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area of the North Service Road and Olive Street in Grimsby on July 9 between 7:45 am and 8 am.
