After months of complaints about noisy, stunt driving in a Mississauga parking lot, one driver is facing charges.

After the Walmart left Westwood Square in Mississauga, drivers have regularly used the empty parking lot for stunt maneuvers such as drifting and doing donuts. Videos on social media show the exhaust fumes rising from the cars and loud street-racing noises.

Ward 5 Councillor Carolyn Parrish has repeatedly asked for action on the issue that has been happening for nearly a year.

Around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday (March 21), police saw a driver dangerously performing “high-speed circular manoeuvres” in the Westwood Square parking lot near Goreway Drive and Morningstar Drive in Mississauga, Peel Regional Police said in a press release.

A 22-year-old man from Cheltenham faces charges of:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Race a Motor Vehicle
  • Unnecessary Noise
  • No muffler – Motor Vehicle
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Not in Accordance with Emission Regulations

Officers seized the vehicle and released the suspect with conditions. He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 17, 2023, regarding the federal and provincial laid charges.

“Road Safety Services will continue to address dangerous driving proactively throughout the Region of Peel, including Westwood Square,” police said. “We are committed to road safety and having a safer community.”
