Auchmar Estate may be one of the heritage sites featured this year for Doors Open Hamilton , which is scheduled for May 7 & 8, 2022.

Hamilton’s heritage sites have not seen much traffic over the course of the pandemic, but the return of a special annual event will hopefully bring more residents out to explore the city’s history.

Doors Open Hamilton is back to in-person events for 2022, for the first time since 2019.

In 2020, the pandemic forced the cancellation of Doors Open and in 2021, the event went digital and on that platform, it runs year-round.

This year, the in-person Doors Open Hamilton will be held on Mother’s Day weekend (May 7th and 8th) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Hamilton Region branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) is organizing the event and said on its website that there will be a mix of in-person and virtual events.

It will give Hamiltonians, history buffs and curiosity seekers an opportunity to tour some of the city’s historic gems and marvels of construction.

In years past, the event has provided a behind-the-doors look into places like the Auchmar Estate, Battlefield House, Balfour House, the Playhouse Cinema and much more.

This year’s featured Hamilton properties are yet to be determined but the ACO said this year will include 10 or more sites that can be visited in person and Auchmar is rumoured to be one of the properties in the line-up.

According to Doors Open Ontario, since these events launched across the province in 2002, more than 8.3 million visits have been made to thousands of unique buildings and spaces.

More information on Doors Open Hamilton 2022 can be found on the event’s website.
