Celebrate the season with Diwali markets coming to Mississauga, Brampton and Halton Hills.

Diwali, known as the festival of light, celebrates the triumph of good over evil. In addition to special lamps and fireworks, people wear their best new clothes and get together with family to eat sweets and other special foods.

This year, Diwali falls on Nov. 12 but people can get a head start on the festivities starting this weekend.

The Diwali Market Event Series, from events production company Culture Market Co., starts this week in Brampton at Shoppers World, followed by markets at Square One, Toronto Premium Outlet in Halton Hills and WaterPark Place in Toronto.

Each Diwali Market includes programs, entertainment and products celebrating the Festival of Lights, highlighting the traditions, customs, and richness of the holiday, according to a press release from Culture Market Co.

There will be live dance showcases, spirited dhol drumbeats, and other vibrant activities that capture the essence of the holiday.

“We’re not just curating a market; we’re weaving a story of tradition, celebration, and community,” said Anita Saini, founder, Culture Market Co. “We are thrilled to build on the success of our previous market by expanding our offerings, giving even communities in the GTA the chance to experience Diwali in a truly unique and immersive way.”

Attendees can catch a saree draping demonstration with expert, Natasha Thasan, at the Shoppers World and Square One markets. The workshop will be on at Shoppers World – Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m.2 p.m., and 5 p.m., and Square One on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

For kids, Zenia Wadhwani will read from her children’s book, Twas the Night Before Diwali. The sessions will also include arts and crafts.

Wadhwani will be at Shoppers World on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m. The Square One sessions are Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m.

The Diwali Market Event Series, sponsored by RBC, starts on Friday, Oct. 27 at Shoppers World, 499 Main St. S., Brampton, and continues on the weekend on Oct. 28 and 29.

The Square One market is Oct. 30 to Nov. 5.

The Toronto Premium Outlet, 13850 Steeles Ave., Halton Hills, market is Nov. 10,11 and 12.

And the WaterPark Place market at 10 Bay St. Toronto, is Nov. 7 and 8.
