A young driver is facing several charges after police the motorist crashed into a light pole in a distracted driving collision in Caledon.
The OPP said on Thursday that officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in Caledon where the driver of a vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a light pole on Highway 9.
Police say the vehicle has tinted windows and a tinted windshield which played a role in the crash and that “distracted driving” was also a factor.
No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash but police say the 19-year-old driver has been charged with several offenses. Police have not disclosed the identity of the accused.
Drivers on Highway 9 may see an increased police presence or experience delays while emergency and clean-up crews are on the scene.
In Ontario, front windshields must allow for at least 70 per cent light transmission. Penalties for unlawful car window tint can result in a $85 to $500 fine along with other fees.
The charges follow an incident in Brampton last month where a driving instructor was stopped for driving with “extremely tinted” windows. A spokesperson for Peel Regional Police said the driving instructor was charged with two offences – one for allegedly driving with the windshield and another for having windows coated and an obstructed view.
