Developers are looking to double their plans to build two new 45- and 50-storey highrise towers in Brampton, with two additional skyscrapers and more than double the number of housing units.
Back in 2023, the city was poised to approve two highrise towers proposed at 137 Steeles Ave. W., across from Shoppers World in Brampton.
The 1.91-hectare property is currently occupied by one home, and the proposed towers could be the tallest in the city, once completed.
But a new application from Avalon Developments looks to double the towers from two to four, increasing the number of available units from around 930 to 1,900.
The two additional towers would be 49 or 46 storeys tall, with 276 one-bedroom units, 199 one-bedroom + den units, nearly 400 two-bedroom suites and five three-bedroom units, among others.
If approved, the project would go ahead in phases, with two towers built in each phase.

The application includes plans for both above-ground and below-ground parking with over 1,100 spaces, a new public park at the south end of the site, and amenity rooms.
As well as access to the shopping mall, those who would live in the buildings would be within walking distance of the Hazel McCallion LRT line.
At 50 storeys tall, the northern building is in the running to be one of the tallest buildings in Brampton. Other contenders include the proposed 48-storey twin towers of Bristol Place and a pair of proposed towers on Lisa Street that could stretch as tall as 65 stories.
A public meeting in 2023 saw residents express concerns about the height of the buildings and shadows cast on homes in the area.
In response, the city noted a sun and shadow study from Turner Fleischer Architects that confirmed “the surrounding area will have limited shadowing impacts throughout the day, with some shadowing impacts during the morning hours onto Steeles Avenue West during the spring and fall equinox and winter solstice.”
Staff recommended approving the earlier development application with a holding provision
The updated application, which included the two additional towers, was filed on May 12.
