A local councillor is thanking staff today at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their quick actions in “saving” his life after he suffered a fall Saturday night (March 5).

Ward 1 Regional and Town Councillor Sean O’Meara is in recovery at the local hospital after he slipped and fell on some ice, resulting in a crack ribbed and collapse lung.

“A slip on the ice turned into a nightmare,” O’Meara said on Twitter.

The Oakville councillor said he owes “massive thanks” to Halton Paramedics.

“Thanks to @HaltonMedics207 for their life saving actions getting to me to #OTMH,” said O’Meara.

He was also grateful for the help and support he received from surgeons, nursing staff and therapists at the hospital for what he calls “their quick interventions.”

“Than you to the nurses and all other staff determined to see me walk out of her eventually on my own,” he said.

O’Meara believes he and other Oakville residents are fortunate to have the emergency medical services we have.

“An incredible thing we have here in Oakville, Ontario,” he said. “Not taking anything for granted these days.”

Councillors, politicians and Oakville residents responded to his post on Twitter by offering their support and a speedy recovery.

“So glad you’re on the mend Sean,” said Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff. “What a blessing to have such an incredible health team here.”

“Hope you have a speedy recovery, Sean!,” said Dr. Scott Xie, Ward 7 Town Councillor.
