Costco is well into selling alcoholic beverages in Ontario.
Big box stores were included in the last phase of Ontario’s alcohol marketplace expansion last year.
INsauga.com visited a Costco in Niagara to take a look at the prices and compare them to what was once one of the few places Ontarians could purchase beer: The Beer Store.
The Beer Store has seen numerous locations shut down amid the expanded alcohol marketplace, with 40 more scheduled to close this summer.

Costco offers large packs of beer for sale, some even with 60 cans.
Here is a look at the price of some beer products at Costco, compared to The Beer Store:
Molson Canadian 60 355 ml cans
Costco: $79.99
Price per can: $1.33
The Beer Store: $97.99
Price per can: $1.63
Costco is $18 cheaper.
Also, when INsauga visited Costco, they were offering $10 off the regular price, meaning it cost $69.99 and marking a difference of $28 compared to The Beer Store.
Coors Light 60 355 ml cans
Costco: $77.99
Price per can: $1.30
The Beer Store: $97.99
Price per can: $1.63
Costco is $20 cheaper.
Coors Original 48 355 ml cans
Costco: $67.99
Price per can: $1.42
The Beer Store: The Beer Store’s website doesn’t list a 48-pack of 355 ml Coors Original cans as one of the products it offers. However, a 24 pack of 355 ml cans costs $47.99 and two would cost $95.98.

INsauga.com also did a price comparison last November and since then, it appears that some prices have been adjusted, either slightly up or down.
It’s important to note that both the Costco and Beer Store prices do not include either tax or the deposit.
The Beer Store price used to include both tax and the deposit, but that appears to have changed when alcohol sales expanded across the province, seemingly to align with the wider market.
