CLOSURE: 11 Beer Store locations shutting down this weekend in Ontario

The Beer Store is continuing to shut down locations in Ontario, with another round of closures set for this weekend.

Overall, the company has announced that 40 more stores are set to shut down over the coming weeks, adding to a number of closures that have already happened.

Last year, Ontario’s alcohol marketplace expanded greatly, allowing thousands of convenience stores, as well as additional grocery stores, to sell booze, except for spirits.

Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail at The Beer Store, has previously cited the changing marketplace as the reason for closures.

On Sunday, 11 locations will close.

“The Beer Store is modernizing operations to meet the needs of marketplace – this means making the difficult decision to close some stores. We know this will be disappointing to many customers and our valued employees,” Ahmed said in a previous news release about the closures coming up this Sunday.

“We don’t make this decision lightly; it is part of our ongoing commitment to business sustainability and serving the needs of our customers.”

Here are the locations that will be closing at the end of the business day on Sunday, July 6:

• Toronto – 1580 Avenue Road
• Aurora – 14800 Yonge Street
• Richmond Hill – 13469 Yonge Street
• Oakville – 104 Lakeshore Road West
• Oakville – 1011 Upper Middle Road
• Coboconk – 6716 Highway 35
• Cornwall – 1396 2nd Street East
• Wiarton – 690 Berford Street
• Windsor – 790 Goyeau Street
• Windsor – 1780 College Avenue
