A police raid at an Oshawa storage locker facility uncovered nearly 200 items stolen from a different storage site alongside an unspecified amount of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The Storngo Blvd Store It Oshawa in the Ritson Rd and Olive Ave area called Durham Regional police in March to report numerous break and enter into storage lockers on their premises.

The DRPS Property Crime Unit and Intelligence Unit launched an investigation and later executed a search warrant at another storage facility in Oshawa.

In the locker police found 190 stolen items and the GHB. The drug is popular among bodybuilder for its supposed strength-boosting and fat-burning qualities. It is also used at raves and nightclub parties as a euphoria-inducing nervous system depressant.

GHB is one of several substances described as a ‘date-rape drug.’ Its use peaked in the 1990s, but it has since made a rebound in popularity since around 2020. The drug has been prohibited in Canada under the 1996 Controlled Drugs Act for any use outside of narcolepsy treatment.

Overdoses on the odorless, colourless and tasteless liquid are “very easy” according to Health Canada and can result in death.

In the course of their investigation, DRPS arrested three people from Oshawa.

Luke Martell, 33 and Jessica Beighton, 37, are charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a Schedule III drug for trafficking.

Brandon Haynes, 27, is charged with two counts of break & enter and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three have been released from custody with conditions.

Police are still reuniting the seized items with their owners. Anyone missing anything from their Store It locker can file a police report so officers can return the property.
