Controlled burn at Mississauga park on Saturday will destroy invasive plants

City of Mississauga workers will start a fire tomorrow morning (April 30) at a park in the city’s south end, but there’s nothing illegal going on.

City parks and forestry officials are planning a “controlled burn” at Lorne Park Prairie Park, at 1070 Queen St. W., between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

“This controlled burn will help remove invasive and unwanted plants that will (then) trigger the growth of desirable prairie plants,” Mississauga officials said in a news release.

 The City asks residents to:

  • avoid the area surrounding Lorne Park Prairie Park throughout the day on Saturday
  • keep windows closed. People may wish to stay indoors
  • abide by temporary signage in the area
  • be aware there may be smoke in the area between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • report any fires outside of the controlled burn area to 9-1-1

For more information about the controlled burn, call 3-1-1.
